Who should take the writing courses?
Any student at every grade level, from elementary to university levels will experience immediate improvements in their writing, their grades and their personal confidence.
If you have been frustrate with your student’s writing, why wait any longer?
If your student would benefit from live teaching and outside objective feedback, these live online writing courses may just be the answer.
If you as the teacher/parent are unsure of how to assess, edit, or encourage your students in the writing process, or would benefit from the outside teaching and feedback, these live online writing courses may be the answer.
Who are the teachers?
All our teachers have been trained by Master Teachers of the Blended Structure and Style Program (Excellence in Writing ) in our week-long training sessions.
What courses are offered?
Courses are offered in both Creative writing and the Research/Report Writing. Courses have been created using the Blended Structure & Style method developed by Dr. J. B. Webster.
What if my students have experience with the EIW program?
When you register your students please add any such information to the comment box. Students are placed in classes with others of like age, grade and ability. Courses are then modified to meet the needs of those students.
What if my students do not have experience with the EIW program?
Not a problem. The courses assume no experience with the program.
What is the time commitment for homework each week?
Each week your student will receive homework, which must be completed before the next class – generally a couple of days before the next class. In general, homework will require about 2 – 3 hours per week.
How do we submit the homework?
Homework should be typed in Microsoft Word or Microsoft Works and sent as an attachment to an email.
Can more than one sibling register for the same course at the same time?
Yes! Several siblings may sit together at one computer to take the class. We offer a discount to families when registering several students for the same class at the same time.
How many students are in a class?
Class sizes range from 3 – 5 students.
Do you mark the homework?
Yes, all homework is marked by the teacher with personalized comments and suggestions. The EIW (Blended Structure & Style) program uses a checklist approach for all the assignments. All skills taught, all mechanics required will be on the checklist and a grade can be assigned.
What if the student misses a class?
Each course moves along quickly. Each week new material is introduced building on the previous material. If you know beforehand you will be gone for one of the classes, please consider registering at an alternate day or session. However, if a class is missed, make-up classes can be scheduled for an additional charge.
How do I register?
Please review the classes offered on the schedules. Pick the class, the session, and the day/time. It would be helpful to also have an alternate day/time selected as classes do fill quickly. When you have determined this information go to: registration page. After you submit your registration form we will call you to confirm your selections and payment information.
see Registration Form
How do I pay for the class?
We accept Visa/MC or cheque. Please note your spot in the class will be on hold until we receive payment.
Purchase Orders from approved School Boards or Homeschool Support Boards are also accepted.
When should I register my students?
You may register at any time. Because classes sizes are small, they tend to fill up quickly.
What software or hardware do I need?
You will need high speed internet access. You will need either a PC or a Mac computer with Microsoft Word or Microsoft Works.
You do not need any new software for the classes. To access the classes you will be sent a link by email. Just clicking on the link will bring you to the class and will also turn on your webcam/microphone.
Do I need a webcam?
Our classes are all offered live, in real time. This means your students can see the teacher and the teacher can see the students. Although we prefer to teach to students whom we can actually see, it is possible to attend the classes with only a microphone/speakers available. The classroom platform also provides a messaging system on the side of the screen where teachers and students may communicate.
