Students will be able to write short stories with structure and style following the Story Sequence Outline.
RESEARCH/REFERENCE WRITING
RR1 – (Grades 4/5/6) $175

Covers Units I, II, IV/VI of Excellence in Writing
• Key Word Outlining from factual paragraphs
• Paragraphs with "Topic/Clincher Rule"
• Write reports from multiple references with fused outlines
ESSAY WRITING
EW 1 – (Grades 9 +) $175
5 weeks/ 1 hour class per week
No previous experience with Excellence in Writing program.
Covers Units VI & VIII of Excellence in Writing
• Students will work on one Basic Essay beginning with the structure of
'how to' write an essay following the 'formula'.
• Completing the essay with style will result in a well-developed, intelligent
and sophisticated model.
• SAT vocabulary is also introduced and students are expected to use the
new vocabulary in their writing.
Using the techniques learned in this class, students will be better prepared to tackle the high school essay and even the ‘essay-on-demand’ type exams.
EW 2 – (Grades 9 +) $175
5 weeks/1 hour class per week
Pre-requisite: EW 1
• Beyond the Basic Essay to the Extended, and Super Essays
• Advanced Paragraphs, Introductions & Conclusions
• Advanced Stylistic Techniques - decorations, triples
CREATIVE STRUCTURES
CS1 $175
5 weeks/ 1hour class per week
Pre-requisite: CW1 or CW2
• Anecdotal Compositions
• Descriptive Paragraphs – 3 options
• Proper use of Dialogue
• Flashbacks
• Advanced Style Techniques
Students will expand their writing to that of anecdotal compositions. Following the structural models taught literally “forces” creativity. These structural and stylistic tools empower students even when required to write creatively “on demand”.
CS2 $175
5 weeks/ 1hour class per week
Pre-requisite: CW 1 or CW2 and CS1
• Advanced Decorations – Structural and Stylistic
• Allusion/Reference, Personification, Irony/Sarcasm, Foreshadowing
• Allegorical Writing
English courses expect students to be able to pick out literary imagery from the writings of others. “Excellence in Writing” or Blended Structure & Style believes that you have not thoroughly learned these techniques until you can and do use them in your own compositions.

This course will provide clear models of the types of essays required in the Alberta Grade 12 diploma exams. Students will be expected to complete practice assignments assigned throughout the course for marking by the instructor.
